Several local hockey teams are expressing interest in funding the cost of their own private spaces a the proposed Woodman’s Sports and Convention Center.

Janesville Public Works Director Mike Payne says the Jets, the Bluebirds, Milton High School boys, and the Rock County Fury have all indicated they’d like having team spaces inside the new facility at Uptown Janesville.

Payne says the City has committed to paying for the empty shell of the team spaces, but the user groups will have to pay for exclusive use of the space, and any upgrades they want to do.

The $50.3 million project slated for the former Sears space at the mall has yet to be officially approved.
