It looks like funding for the proposed indoor athletic and conference center at Uptown Janesville is coming up $4 million short.

The City of Janesville received word that the U.S. Economic Development Administration would not be considering the Woodman’s Sports and Convention Center project for funding under the Public Works and Economic Adjustment Assistance grant program.

Public Works Director Mike Payne delivered the bad news to the City Council this week.

Payne says the City is working with the Friends of the Woodman’s Center in order to try to secure additional grants that are only available to non-profits.

Acting City Manager David Moore says there is $4 million in the contingency fund, and hope the the project will go better than expected, freeing up some money there.
