Downtown Janesville Inc. is encouraging all residents to “plog” the week leading up to Earth Day.

Managing Director Elaina Szyjewski says they’re asking people to bring a grocery bag and pick up garbage while they take their daily walks, runs, or jogs.

Szyjewski says they’re trying to promote the initiative more this year by including a social media campaign, and People who share photos of them “plogging” and use the hashtag #JanesvillePlogging and tag Downtown Janesville will be entered to win prizes.

Plogging originates in Sweden, and combines the Swedish words “to pick up” and “jogging”.
