The DNR is warning residents of elevated fire danger this week as a dry spell continues across the state.

Janesville Fire Marshall Nathan Simmons says a number of factors including warm temperatures, low humidity, and wind all contribute to the D-N-R issuing a warning.

Simmons says residents should keep an eye the changing fire danger, avoid burning of any kind until a good soaking rain moves into the area, and have making sure there is a source of extinguishment readily available.

Simmons says while departments across the state responded to over 90 wildfires last week alone, Janesville has done a good job of avoiding any out of control fires.

Residents are encouraged to check the DNR’s fire danger map to get updates on how high the risk is where they live.
