The City of Janesville is apparently unique in that it doesn’t allow roads to be named in honor of people who are still alive.

Communications Specialist Nick Faust says a dozen of Janesville’s peer communities allow the practice.

Faust says currently street names can only posthumously honor an individual, and they are heavily vetted first.

Faust says the City Council directed staff to look into the use of sub-names, which emergency responders have indicated could be confusing.

The Janesville City Council will take up the matter again when they meet on Monday night.
