The Beloit School District’s Superintendent proposed a number of changes to the board’s public comment policy at a Wednesday night meeting.

Willie Garrison first suggested limiting the amount times someone can yield comment time to another person to once per meeting instead of twice, saying the six minutes they would get would be ample time to make their point.

Garrison also proposed limiting who can speak at board meetings to students, parents, staff members, residents of the city of Beloit, and those who have a “vested interest”.

Board Member Megan Miller fought back against the amendment, saying communities don’t operate in isolation from one another and sometimes hearing from people in other districts can provide solutions to district problems.

No changes were made to the policy, and the committee will re-examine potential changes at a meeting in July.
