The car found under water in the Rock River near Riverside Park in Janesville Wednesday has been there for quite some time.

According to a release from the Rock County Sheriff’s office, detectives were able to confirm the vehicle removed from the river was reported stolen to the Sheriff’s office in August of 1993.

The sheriff’s office deployed divers into the river Wednesday and had it towed out after a citizen reported they had found a sunken vehicle Monday.

According to the release detectives have since been in contact with the owner of the stolen vehicle and the investigation is considered closed.
