Rock County’s text to 911 service will be down for about the next month.

Communications Center Director Fredd Carr says the county is beginning a testing period to merge their phone system and upgrade the technology, and background work will cause the texting services to go down.

Carr says in the long term, the new technology will allow residents to share video or photo information to those at the center so they’re better able to assess how much help is needed on a location.

Carr says the expected completion date is August 17th, and people can still call 911 or the non emergency number.
