Details are scant, but the Rock County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that a corpse found in an abandoned home outside
Beloit is a missing Madison man who authorities say disappeared months ago.

Rock County Sheriff’s Capt. Mark Thompson says the body found Sunday at an abandoned residence in town of Turtle is Christopher Miller, the 27-year-old Madison man who police said fled from police and then vanished last November during a traffic stop near Janesville.

On Monday morning, sheriff’s officials weren’t giving information about the investigation. Police had a house in the 3800 block of Spring Creek Road cordoned off, and witnesses saw detectives investigating there after someone apparently reported a corpse in the residence Sunday morning, police say.

Miller was last seen in November after authorities say he ran from police after a traffic stop along Interstate-90/39 near Janesville. The house in the town of turtle is about 5.5 miles from where police say they last saw Miller.

Miller’s family has lobbied for months for police to do more to search for him.

Thompson says the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office made the identification, but oh Monday evening, Thompson said he could offer no further details or information.

Thompson says pending a further investigation, he couldn’t say for sure how long Miller might have been deceased, whether he is thought to have died inside the house, or if authorities suspect foul play in Miller’s death. It’s not clear how long the home where Miller was found has been abandoned.

Thompson says the sheriff’s office does not believe the public is in immediate danger.
