The City of Beloit is hoping to reduce speeding and improve safety with a street reconstruction project.

Public Works Director Bill Frisbee says reconstruction of Cranston Road from Prairie Avenue to Collingswood Drive will be funded through the bipartisan infrastructure law.

Frisbee says the project involves reducing the road from four lanes down to three, with one travel lane in each direction, and a center two-way left turn lane.

The project includes re-paving, re-striping, and updated signage. The sidewalks and off-road multi-use path will be completed during the next phase of Cranston Road.

Frisbee says the City reconstructed Cranston Road from Shopiere Road to Collingswood Drive a few years ago in the same configuration and accidents have been reduced by 34 percent every single year.
