The attorney for a town of Fulton man charged with stabbing his young sister to death is scant on details about why he thinks his client may not be competent to stand trial.

20-year-old Dayveon Lathrop is charged with first-degree intentional homicide and hiding a corpse in connection with the incident on March 9th.

Lathrop’s attorney Kevin Smith said in court Tuesday that conversations and interactions with his client led his to believe a competency evaluation is in order.

Judge Derrick Grubb ordered that a competency evaluation be completed on Lathrop within the next 30 days.

According to the criminal complaint the victim was left in the care of Lathrop for less than two hours while their father made a trip to a home improvement store. The victim was found stabbed to death in a storage tote inside the basement of the home.

Lathrop is due back in court for another status conference on April 18th.
