Local dairy farmers are taking steps to prevent the spread of Avian Influenza to their cattle.

Cases of H1N5 in cows have been confirmed in Kansas, Texas, Michigan, Idaho, New Mexico, and South Dakota.

Larson Acres General Manager Sandy Larson says there is no concern about the safety of the commercial milk supply or consumer health because dairy products are pasteurized before being sold.

Larson says local farmers are reviewing their biosecurity protocols and making sure they are being adhered to.

Health experts believe the risk of humans contracting avian influenza from cattle is low.
