One of two teens accused of shooting flare guns at a home on the 1600 block of Dewey Avenue as a family with two young children sat on the porch has his preliminary hearing in Rock County Court.
17-year-olds Steven Meade II of Janesville and Ayden Ross of Beloit are charged with first-degree recklessly endangering safety and obstructing an officer. Ross is also charged with four counts of bail jumping as he has nine other open cases.
Monday morning in Rock County Court Commissioner Jack Hoag bound Ross over for trial.
According to the criminal complaint, two women were on a porch with a baby and a toddler when Meade and Ross walked up and asked if they could see the baby. They declined, and the two suspects left.
Moments later, they heard a shot fired, and a burning red streak flew past … nearly hitting them.
Police found a spent flare cartridge at the scene.
Cash bond was set at $10,000 for both suspects. Ross’ bond was posted while Meade remains in the Rock County Jail.
