Two Janesville companies are out-growing their existing space at the city’s former Lear plant.

Greenhouse component manufacturer Green-Tek announced it is purchasing and moving into the former Durst manufacturing facility in Shopiere, Wisconsin to facilitate the company’s expansion.

The business currently shares its Janesville facility with its sister company Coextruded Plastic Technologies (CPT), which is also growing and needs more of the space at the old Lear seat manufacturing site.

Regal Beloit owned and operated the Durst plant until last fall, when it announced plans to close the facility.

Green-Tek President Paul Jacobson said he first heard about the site’s availability while listening to WCLO.

His company has seen steady growth in recent years, and the COVID-19 pandemic caused a spike in sales for some of their greenhouse coverings.

Jacobson estimated it could take a year for Green-Tek to get fully settled into the Durst facility, which will require some remodeling they can do while occupying the building.

The company also operates two plants near Fresno, California and Atlanta, Georgia, but its Janesville headquarters are part of the move to Shopiere.
