The School District of Janesville hopes its new COVID-19 dashboard will give parents a more complete picture of how the coronavirus affects in-person learning.

Every week, the district will post an update on the number of students and staff who have tested positive for COVID-19, who have had close contact with confirmed positive cases or who have some possible exposure.

As of September 24, Janesville schools have 15 active positive cases among students, with 208 additional students who were in close contact with the active cases and 840 students who shared a classroom or gathering space with the positive cases.

The majority of the coronavirus exposures have been in the two high schools, which have a higher population of students and more movement between classrooms.

Both Craig High School and Roosevelt Elementary School temporarily pivoted to virtual learning due to outbreaks in the schools.

Seven staff members also have active COVID-19 cases along with 79 close contacts.

The district and the Rock County Health Department are conducting contract tracing for every case, notifying the families of all students who qualify as having close contact with positive cases.
