The second trial of a Janesville man charged with homicide will have to wait until next year after its third COVID-19 related delay.

Rock County Judge Barbara McCrory agreed to reschedule the jury trial for 24-year-old Julian Collazo to February of 2021.

McCrory declared a mistrial in Collazo’s initial jury trial in October of 2019. She originally set a second trial for July of 2020, which was then delayed to September because the local courts weren’t ready to host a jury during the pandemic.

McCrory said Rock County has had difficulty securing personal protective equipment and hand sanitizer for the courtrooms.

Collazo’s lawyer Jeff Jensen filed a motion with the court to have the trial held in a different county. The court is also considering bringing in a jury from an outside county due to the publicity of the case.

The latest delay gives the two sides more time to determine how the jury trial can be held safely during the ongoing pandemic.
