A Rock County District Attorney says he will not pursue a case in the arrest of two Beloit School District employees accused of disorderly conduct involving a student.

On Tuesday in Rock County court, Assistant District Attorney Noah Tylenda told court commissioner Jack Hoag he won’t pursuing charges for Vida Bevineau, 61, Janesville, and Steven Jordan, 52, Rockford, Illinois.

Bevineau and Jordan work at Merrill Elementary School in Beloit. Both had turned themselves in to police in early February and were arrested on misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

Beloit police at the time did not provide details of the arrest, and they deferred to the school district for comment, but police said witnesses and evidence in an incident in early February had sparked an “immediate investigation” by a detective assigned to crimes against children.

Police said the school district launched its own investigation, and Jordan and Bevineau were being cooperative with police.

A Beloit School District podcast from 2023 lists Bevineau as a library media specialist, and the social media platform LinkedIn lists Jordan as a school counselor.

Tylenda did not explain his decision to toss out the charges.
