The state Department of Justice has named the Janesville officer who shot and killed a man during a standoff on North Parker Drive March 1.

The DOJ says the investigation into an officer’s fatal shooting of Andrew Zigler, 52 continues. But the agency identifies Janesville Police Sergeant Jimmy Holford III as the officer who shot a gun and killed Zigler.

Authorities have said they could not get Zigler to come out of a home in a quiet residential stretch of North Parker Drive, in the overnight hours March 1, and two people inside were not able to safely exit.

No one else was injured. Police say they found a gun inside the home.

Holford has been a Janesville police officer 16 years. In 2022, he received a special commendation from then-police Chief David Moore. Moore honored Holford for quickly attending to a person authorities say had been shot by a disgruntled coworker on the floor of a Janesville factory in April 2022.

Authorities say during the fatal shooting March 1 on Parker Drive, Holford’s body camera was turned on.

The Department of Criminal Investigation says when it wraps up the investigation, it will turn over reports to the Rock County District Attorney’s office.
