Local air conditioners are expected to get a workout this week.

With temperatures pushing 90 through the weekend, Alliant Energy is offering tips so customers aren’t shocked by their utility bill.

Spokesperson Chris Caporale says don’t use your TV for background noise, and unplug unused electronics.

Caporale  says simply turning the thermostat up a few degrees and closing the shades can be a big help.

Caporale says Alliant Energy has a budget billing plan so that instead of paying for what you use each month, it’s averaged out for the entire year.
